Are you a leader or entrepreneur dealing with uncertainty as a result of COVID-19?
The world continues to change in ways that were unthinkable six months ago. With the ongoing fluidity of the situation and inherent uncertainty, it remains unclear what this means for our organisations, communities, countries and the world, now and over coming months, and where things will end up.
What we do know is that COVID-19 is profoundly impacting many organisations and their staff. For some, this is extremely painful as the organisation fights for its survival. For others, the firm faces unprecedented levels of demand and the need to rapidly scale.
Being a leader or an entrepreneur in this situation is not easy: you’re aware that the decisions you make matter and could have significant effect on your staff and/or business, both now and in the future. In a role that can feel pretty lonely at the best of times, this can leave you feeling exposed and out on a limb. Even if you have a team around you, there is no ‘global pandemic business manual’ for you to follow. Your team may not all agree and you’ll inevitably have different perspectives about what could and should happen next, and how quickly to act.
That’s why we’ve been exploring how to do our bit for the organisations around us. Alongside continuing to support our existing clients, Debbie and I feel it’s important to give back to the business community that has supported us over the last 10 years.
We’ve therefore launched a new pro bono support initiative for leaders and entrepreneurs who have questions and would like space to explore.
Action & Ambiguity: a free 2-hour facilitated in-house session designed just for you
If you are a business leader, entrepreneur or management team dealing with uncertainty due to COVID-19, we have created ‘Action & Ambiguity’ just for you. It is a 2-hour, facilitated virtual in-house session for one or more people—whether your business is holding on for survival, stable but concerned, or grappling with growth. Subject to mutual availability, we are offering one pro bono session each week: for more details and to apply, see below.
What can I expect from the session?
Our end objective is to facilitate your thinking and provide a non-judgemental space for you to explore options, ask questions, sound out ideas and acquire new insights. Together, we will hopefully achieve a level of clarity about the situation you’re facing and enable you to walk away with an improved sense of your best next steps.
Even under normal circumstances, as innovation and strategy consultants, we deal with uncertainty and ambiguity every day. It is intrinsic in our work. Our aim is to bring this knowledge, and the tools and approaches designed for these environments, to help structure your thinking, and perhaps even open up avenues that you might not have considered or realised were there. Our hope is that as well as having someone supportive to talk to, you’ll also get the benefit of a fresh perspective and a range of resources that will both support you now and beyond the session.
The in-house session is designed for one or more people, so feel free to invite your management team. It is only for one organisation at a time so your team will be the only ones on the call. We’ll run the session in a combination of Zoom (or another video conferencing provider if you’d prefer) and Miro, an online collaborative whiteboard. We’ll co-create the content and insights together, supported by proven frameworks used by organisations around the globe, and you’ll be able to see the thinking develop before your eyes. At the end of the session, we’ll download the canvas and provide you with a high resolution copy for your records.
Afterward, if you have any questions or need to clarify anything, we are available at the end of the phone. Beforehand, we’ll have a brief pre-session call to ensure we make the most of our time together and may ask you to share any information that might be useful.
What is expected from you?
There are a couple of things that we expect from you, although clarity is not one of them! We ask that you respond promptly to any emails and phone calls; be available when you say you will be; and join the online session at the agreed date and on time. You’ll also need access to a computer with webcam and audio during the session. Other than that, just come with your questions, an open mind and a collaborative attitude.
If you would like to apply for an ‘Action & Ambiguity’ session, it’s really easy.

- We’ll give you a call. This will be a brief chat to gather a bit more background, clarify the brief and ensure your challenges match our skill set.
